Who I Am and Where I’ve Been
I’m a singer. I’m a nonprofit professional. I’m one of you.
A dyed-in-the-wool musician, I have spent most of my career working in and interacting with the nonprofit world, and have been sought out as panelist, blogger, and board member for various arts organizations. At Chorus America’s 2020 national virtual conference, the panel I moderated on pandemic-era board governance provided context and tactical advice for choruses across the country and around the world. As a guest blogger for both Chorus America and Chorus Connection, I write on various issues of arts nonprofit management from budgeting to development to member engagement.
In 2021, I completed a six-year term on the Board of Trustees for Princeton Pro Musica (PPM), a 100-voice symphonic chorus in Princeton, NJ, serving as Vice President and President. During my time on the board, I led PPM through the creation of a strategic plan, guided multichannel marketing activities, developed and executed annual appeals and fundraising efforts, chaired the development committee, crafted both internal and external organizational communications, oversaw a two-person staff, and represented the organization at a number of community events.
I have sung as a member of PPM’s professional core of singers since 2005, and have occasionally conducted the chamber chorus in non-subscription community appearances. In other words, I am a full-stack member of the community arts world.
A lifelong learner, I am especially interested in the areas of writing, organizational management, marketing, and social media. I studied vocal music education at James Madison University, and have twice completed the Chorus Management Institute coursework, presented by Chorus America.
My primary focus as a consultant is to provide you with the tools and techniques your organization needs to achieve its goals. I work best through learning your stories, telling some of my own, and collaborating on a plan that feels authentic, achievable, and unique to your vision. I can’t wait to collaborate with you!
